Industries of Prediction

The Ωmen Engine

Are you interested in the future? It's already there...
Welcome to the Ωmen Engine.
A collection of thousand of years old wisdom from all over the world. Ask your question to the future and immediately get the answer from this revolutionary tool.
By clicking here the Ωmen Engine opens for you to investigate all sorts of oracles.
You will see an interactive diagram presenting 3 factors on 3 circles that can be rotated against each other.
The inner circle shows triggers and tools of prediction. The center circle lists practices and rituals of prediction. The outer circle contains all sorts of issues that predictions answer to.
To operate the Ωmen Engine rotate any of the circles to bring your most favorite term to the top. Three words create a pattern that becomes a starting point for your personal divinations.
To challenge your mental defaults the Ωmen Engine provides a link to a deep, opaque, impenetrable, unfathomable thesaurus – a black-box that feeds on the many traces we can not cease to leave in the universe.
Should any of the Ωmen factors not suit your current purpose, just reload until future and expectations align.

  1. The real unknowability of the future is being transformed into calculable investment and therefore manageable risk. Uncertainty is not just a matter of missing big data, of more tracking, more information and more knowledge. Since at least the laudable efforts of Raymond Llull and Gottfried Leibniz the „combinatorial art“ ars combinatoria has been invoked as a way to miraculously generate new ideas, new inventions & conversely decompose and reduce complex problems to basic units and conceptual building blocks. A foolproof way to solve theological, scientific, moral, legal questions etc able to PUT AN END TO ALL ARGUMENTATION. At the basis of the combinatorial art was the Arabic algorithmic process of „letter magic“ – an ancient method of calculating truth based on a finite or fixed number of given elements.
Recently, philosopher Quentin Meillassoux talks about hyperchaos or true uncertainty, where one cannot assign probabilities to all the possible states of the universe becose there is no such fixed or closed set of all possible states to begin with. There is no „totality of cases“ even if our „computational imagination“ earns after total mastery where everything could be rendered computable with the help of a characteristica universalis fulfilling the numerological dreams of Phytagoreans and Cartesians.
Omen Engine goes back on its Arabic zairja or the I ching hexagrams – roots, encompassing both combinations of the calculable and non calculable; an interactive touch sensitive rotative concentric art of divination, by allowing users to combine, choose, permutate & reconsider mostly forgotten material ways of prediction from Chinese Oracle (or dragon) bones to the Roman haruspex (entrails reading) to actually surviving, proto algorithmic modes of fortune telling.
